On Labor Day Weekend, the other half of the building we have occupied for 7 1/2 years became available. After much deliberation, number crunching, and prayer, we decided to take the plunge and committed to a 5 year lease on the entire building. Once the decision was made and a contractor hired (Dan Bradford Construction) the work went much faster than we anticipated and the newly expanded Murphy’s Guitars became a reality. We can now boast of 3000 sq. feet of space. Our showroom has more than doubled in size and our showcase is the new Acoustic Den, our humidity controlled acoustic room that features oak paneled slat wall, hardwood floor, and very nice furniture to sit on while you play the more expensive guitars that we carry.
We brought in the Breedlove brand of acoustic guitars to give us one of the top brands of USA made guitars. These guitars are made in Bend Oregon and are some of the finest guitars Murphy’s has ever carried. One of my favorites is the Oregon Dreadnaught that features Myrtle Wood Back and Sides and a Solid Sitka Spruce top. It has an ebony fretboard and the Fishman Ultra-Tone pickup system.
We also have some of the nicer Seagull instruments in stock. The Artist Studio is a beautiful Dreadnaught guitar that features solid rosewood back and sides and solid Sitka spruce top, herring bone inlay, and a two part pick-up system with both a mic and piezo pick-up that can be blended to get a beautiful acoustic sound when played in an amplifier.
On our main floor we have much more display space and we even have a small stage area that we use for display but is meant for small concerts, workshops, and even open mics. We will begin having open mics once each month on Friday nights in January so watch for the announcements on Facebook and our newsletter. We hope you’ll drop by and see the improvements during the holidays. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of our wonderful customers.
